A Kentucky man who spent nearly 30 years in the U.S. Navy as a fireman and boiler tender and is now suffering from mesothelioma has won a $32 million asbestos settlement for injuries and pain/suffering he has endured. Yet another notable public figure has passed away from mesothelioma. Seventy-year-old Frank Bender, a well-known forensic sculptor (or “recomposer of the dead” as he came to be known) passed away from mesothelioma in July after battling the deadly asbestos disease for nearly two years. A string of cold temperatures in the South has led to ruptured waterlines in military homes located at Fort Bliss in Texas. Some of the freeze affected homes are in the South Main Post neighborhood and, upon inspection, repair workers discovered that the waterlines were surrounded by asbestos insulation.
